L-R: Stephen Grant, founder, and Niall Fay, CEO, Grant.
Decarbonising Ireland’s buildings will require not only greater deployment of heat pumps, but a whole-system approach to heating, where technologies are correctly designed, sized, and specified to work together efficiently.
Grant’s new Quick Recovery Hot Water Cylinder range addresses an important part of this challenge by supporting efficient domestic hot water production in low-temperature heat pump systems.
Heat pumps generally achieve their best performance at lower flow temperatures. However, conventional cylinders developed for higher-temperature systems may not provide the heat-transfer capability required. This can result in slower recovery and reduced overall system efficiency.
Grant has developed its Quick Recovery Cylinders specifically for low-temperature heat pump systems. Each unit incorporates a large, high-surface-area heat exchange coil constructed from DN25 stainless-steel tubing. By transferring energy efficiently from the heat pump to the stored water, the design supports rapid recovery while helping the system maintain efficient operating conditions.
Advanced insulation reduces standing heat loss, while the duplex stainless-steel inner shell provides durability. Capacities from 150 to 300 litres allow storage to be matched to different property and demand profiles.
The Grant QR cylinder range is designed and manufactured in Ireland at the company’s headquarters in Birr, County Offaly, following an €8 million investment in the development of the range and expanded manufacturing facilities. This latest investment builds on Grant’s longstanding commitment to research, innovation, and manufacturing in Ireland and the continued development of innovative heating technologies.
The cylinders form part of Grant’s integrated heating offering which includes the award-winning Aerona R290 air source heat pump, Uflex underfloor heating, and Aerona Smart Controller.
Together, these technologies can be designed and specified for a complete heating system, with each component matched to the requirements of the individual property. The Aerona R290 heat pump uses natural refrigerant R290, with a GWP of just 3, while intelligent controls support weather compensation and effective system management.
Supporting this integrated approach is Grant’s free design and specification service. The company’s technical specialists carry out detailed room-by-room heat-loss calculations and specify the heat pump, hot water cylinder, heat emitters, and controls as part of a coordinated system.
Scaling renewable and low-carbon heating will depend on effective system design and correctly matched components. By combining innovative heating technologies with professional design, specification, and technical expertise, Grant is helping support the transition towards more efficient, low carbon home heating in Ireland.
Think Heating. Think Grant.
