Navigating Ireland’s Energy Transition – A Rural Ireland Perspective from Calor
30th May 2025
We must be practical and flexible to deliver greater energy efficiency in Ireland
30th May 2025Flogas goes for gold with new HQ

Flogas has evolved into one of Ireland’s leading energy providers and our expanding portfolio now includes certified 100% renewable electricity, natural gas, LPG, BioLPG, biomethane, bioenergy, and a suite of sustainable energy solutions, writes John Rooney, Managing Director, Flogas Ireland.
We now employ 520 people across the island of Ireland and to support our expansion and commitment to sustainability, our head office has relocated to prestigious LEED Gold certified offices at Dublin Airport Central. A LEED Gold certification denotes that a building has excelled in its sustainable design and operation. It is indicative of its comprehensive adoption of best practices in sustainability.
Our vision is to be Ireland’s foremost provider of total energy solutions, responding to our customers’ changing needs with innovation and the highest standards of service. As part of this strategic growth, our company portfolio has expanded to include Flogas Enterprise, Clearpower as well as Budget Energy in Northern Ireland.
In 2023, we invested €4 million in our LPG tanker fleet, with the purchase of 17 new vehicles and the transition of our entire fleet to run on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) along with the installation of best-in-class diagnostic and tracking software for road safety. The fleet also holds the Truck Safe Gold Standard Award from the Freight Transport Association of Ireland, the only LPG provider to do so.
In late 2024, we announced plans to take on the upfront cost of solar installation for business customers under a new ‘solar as a service’ offering, delivering €50 million of solar energy projects over five years, which will significantly reduce energy bills and carbon footprints.
Expanding renewable energy solutions
Budget Energy provides 100% renewable electricity, while Clearpower delivers bioenergy solutions through turnkey installations or fully outsourced energy supply agreements, allowing businesses to transition seamlessly to cleaner energy sources. Flogas Enterprise, with its expertise in managing large-scale energy users, plays a critical role in expanding our renewable and low-carbon solutions across Ireland.
Leading the energy transition
As part of DCC Group plc, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. Carbon reduction is a key priority, and we are proud to be at the forefront of Ireland’s energy transformation. Our introduction of BioLPG in 2021 aligns with government climate targets, allowing off-grid homes and businesses to reduce their carbon footprint without costly infrastructure changes. Derived from sustainably sourced vegetable oils, wastes, and residues, BioLPG reduces carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional LPG.
To help businesses take greater responsibility for their carbon footprint, we introduced a carbon offsetting solution in 2020. This initiative allows commercial customers to offset 100% of their emissions by supporting verified environmental projects that meet internationally recognised standards.
Recognition and future commitment
As a member of the Renewable Gas Forum Ireland (RGFI), we actively support Ireland’s ambition to lead in renewable gas production and to achieve a sustainable, low-carbon energy future.
Finally, our continuing success is down to the dedication of our employees, who consistently deliver exceptional service to homes and businesses. Looking ahead, we are committed to advancing sustainable energy solutions, expanding our reach, and contributing to a greener future for all.
