Navigating a volatile global energy system
13th October 2026Delivering the critical infrastructure powering Ireland’s energy future

Ireland’s energy transition is creating a new generation of infrastructure projects, bringing with it increasingly complex logistics requirements.
From renewable generation and grid infrastructure to power generation and mission-critical facilities, the safe and reliable movement of critical equipment is an important part of delivering Ireland’s future energy network.
Quality Freight continues to expand its presence within the energy and power generation sectors, providing specialist project logistics solutions for complex, high-value, and abnormal cargo.
A significant recent milestone was our involvement in the Celtic Interconnector Project, where offices across the Fracht Group collaborated to manage the logistics chain for four 227-tonne Siemens transformers destined for the new converter station at Aghada, County Cork.
The project began in Germany, where the transformers were collected and transported to the Port of Rotterdam. From there, the Fracht Group coordinated onward shipping and project logistics, providing visibility and control throughout the journey including the oversight of the new RW18 permit process for exceptional abnormal loads in Ireland.

Working closely across the group, we delivered an integrated solution encompassing multimodal transport, port handling, marine operations, route engineering and final installation planning. Upon arrival in Ireland, Quality Freight (Fracht Ireland) managed the marine landing, abnormal load transport, civil works coordination, and final positioning of the transformers at site.
The project required extensive engineering and stakeholder coordination, including route surveys, permitting, utility protection and overbridging, marine and tidal planning, and management of specialist contractors.
All four transformers were successfully delivered and installed, demonstrating the value of involving logistics specialists early in complex infrastructure projects.

Our capabilities extend across energy and renewables, infrastructure and construction, industrial projects, mission-critical facilities and data centre logistics. Our teams combine multimodal transport, route planning, specialist handling and project management to provide coordinated solutions from point of manufacture through to final site delivery and installation.
As part of the Fracht Group, Quality Freight combines its 36 years of experience in Ireland with now the Groups global project logistics network across Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East.
As investment in Ireland’s electricity network, renewable generation and supporting infrastructure continues, Quality Freight is committed to providing the engineering, planning and logistics expertise required to move the critical components behind that transition safely, efficiently and reliably from origin to final installation.
